She stirred in the powder.

It looked like flour. A scoop of white plant fiber, mixed into her morning protein shake.

Her twin got a scoop too… same color, same taste. But the second was a blank: plain maltodextrin, with no fiber at all.

For twelve weeks both twins lifted weights and took a protein supplement. Then came a memory test. Match the pattern to the place on a screen.

One twin made far fewer mistakes. She was the one who got the fiber.

The scoop was inulin and FOS, cheap prebiotics you can buy off any shelf.

PLANT FIBER LINKED TO SHARPER MEMORY

Meanwhile, the largest mental wellness trial in American history just launched. An ARPA-H grant of up to $4.5 million backs it. The study will test 19 prebiotic formulas in more than 6,000 people.

But one team already has a result.

King’s College London ran a trial on 36 twin pairs, all 60 and over. The average age was 73. One twin in each pair got 7.5 grams of inulin and FOS per day. The other got a look-alike placebo. Both groups lifted weights and took the same protein.

After twelve weeks, the fiber group made fewer errors on a memory test… p = 0.001. Cognition rose too, at p = 0.014.

Here’s the thing. Muscle strength, the study’s main aim, did not change. But the brain was where it showed.

Professor Claire Steves at King’s College London put it this way: “These plant fibres, which are cheap and available over the counter, could benefit a wide group of people in these cash-strapped times.”

My annual research tab clears twenty thousand dollars. It buys the same feeds hedge funds and biotech labs keep behind closed doors. Most gut-health studies I screen are funded by the company selling the capsule. This one came from King’s College London, with twins as the control. It ran in Nature Communications.

Why a Sleep Scientist Walked Away From a Drug Company

A few years ago, a top sleep scientist working with one of the biggest drug companies in the U.S. came across something extraordinary.

A 30-second “sleep trick” that helped people sleep deeper and longer, without pills, gadgets, side effects or sedatives.

It fixed people’s sleep for good. That is exactly why the company shut it down: once people fixed their sleep, they stopped buying melatonin pills.

So he quit. He left the drug industry behind and dedicated his work to helping people sleep naturally again.

Today his 30-second sleep trick is available to the public, and it is already helping thousands fall asleep faster, stay asleep all night and wake up truly rested.

It is simple enough that you will wonder why no one told you before. See how it works here.

THE CHEAPEST BRAIN FOOD ON THE SHELF

The trial tested a powder you can buy for less than a coffee. And the fiber it used grows in common food.

Inulin mixed with FOS makes up the powder: two plant fibers that feed the bacteria in your gut. The trial dose was 7.5 grams a day for twelve weeks.

I added a scoop of inulin to my coffee three weeks ago. The first couple of mornings came with some bloating… by day five the routine felt like brushing my teeth.

So the move is a scoop a day. Build up from a smaller start.

Food carries the same fiber.

Garlic, onions, leeks, and asparagus all carry inulin and FOS. Green bananas add a cousin called resistant starch. But the trial used a powder, not food alone.

// The Steps

The Fiber Scoop

This is the protocol the King’s College team ran, sized for a kitchen counter.

1
Pick a powder: look for inulin or FOS on the label, with no added fillers.
2
Start at 3 grams a day: stir it into coffee, water, or a shake, then build to 7.5 grams by week two.
3
Take it with a meal: the trial group mixed theirs into water or another drink.
4
Hold for 12 weeks: that is when the memory test showed the gain.

// Quick Wins

Toss garlic and onion into one meal. They are among the richest food sources of the same fiber the trial used.

By the way, try chicory root coffee once a day. Chicory root is one of the most concentrated sources of inulin on the planet.

Start the powder low and build slow: 3 grams the first week, then add a gram every few days to spare the gut.
