A team at UC San Diego had another idea. Skip the pills. Send the fix straight to the source. They packed the gene for BDNF into a harmless virus. BDNF is a protein that grows and repairs brain cells. Then they guided that virus, with an MRI, into the exact hub.
Six patients in. No setbacks yet. And the follow up scans show something rare… that corner of the brain is waking back up.
